Upcoming Features of Android 15, Vanilla Ice Cream
Hi everyone, a lot of people are going to read
this article because it's a good trend. These days, you'll get updates for at
least 2 years. Even if you have a 25-30K phone, you'll get major updates for 2
years. “Android 15” is going to be available on a lot of people's
phones. And that's why I'm going to tell you what “Android 15” is going
to give you before you get the Android 15 update. Basically, this is all about
new features in “Android 15”.
Speaking of “Android 15”, the name of
the sweets is still there. You might have forgotten because we still call it
Android 12, 13, 14. But the letter for “Android 15” is “V”. And
the code name for it is “Vanilla Ice Cream”.
Before we move on to the features, let me tell you when it's going to be available. Basically, this version of “Android 15” that we're testing is “Beta 2”. But the stable variant will be available on your phones after August-September. The release of the stable variant will be in August. Or it might be latest by September-October. But it should be available on your phones by the end of the year.
Basically, if you've
bought a phone in the last 1-1.5 years, then you'll get it earlier. In fact,
I'm going to tell you which phones it'll be available on. If you're adventurous
& techy, then you'll be able to install it. But we'll talk about the list
of phones that you can install on.
1. Private Space:
Overall, if you look at the updates, I'm saying
“Android 13, 14 & 15”, they're focusing on security & data
privacy. So these things are very important. Even if I talk about UI &
design, there are a lot of things that are already good & working fine.
Google won't work on it much. There are a lot of new features on the security
& privacy issues. And there's a lot of private space in it.
If you look at “One UI”, Motorola's “MyUX”,
“Hello UI”, then there's already a security folder on them. But that's
basically a skin on top of “Android 14”. By default, you didn't get
private space in “Android 14”. But now, you're going to get private
space in “Android 15”. Where you can hide & keep whatever you want
to keep private. And you can lock your biometrics with a pin or pad. And
there's an additional good feature where you can delete & remove all the
private space without touching any of your other data. So yeah, private space
is natively coming to “Android 15”. And there's a lot of issue with
people.
2. Partial Screen Recording:
This is very important for the videos we create
& stream. We screencast, i.e. we screen record. But while screen recording,
the phone is on & notifications come in between. And they get recorded
because you're doing screen recording.
Now, there's a new feature where all these
other things like notifications won't come. Why? Because you'll be able to
screen record based on the app. This means, when you open the app, whatever
you're doing on the app will be visible. And even if you get a notification,
nothing will be visible. Only that app screen, you'll be able to see it. this
is very useful.
So this feature of partial screen recording is very good. You can do full screen recording like you used to do before. But there's another option where you can screen record based on the app.
3. Enhanced Theft Protection:
I must say that the features that Google is
giving priority to are all about security & privacy. And this is also about
theft & this is very good. You know, when you're roaming around with an
expensive phone, suddenly someone comes on the car & snatches it. There are
many such incidents & this is a new feature for them.
Now, in “Android 15”, the gyroscope will tell you that someone has snatched the phone from you. when it finds out, what will it do? You'll have to reset the phone first. You won't be able to reset it unless & until you put in the original owner's email id & details. The owner doesn't know the details of the stolen phone, so the phone is reset. That will be in the locked state only.
Now, you'll say that you can reset the phone directly. But if you have “Android 15”, you won't be able to reset the phone. Yes, this feature is going to be rolled out from “Android 10” to “Android 14”. But the factory reset feature will only be available on “Android 15”.
4. Webcam Mode:
There's another useful feature. We use laptops,
& you know how laptops have webcams. They've simplified it a lot. You'll be
able to use your phone's camera in “Android 15” as a “webcam”.
High resolution cameras. When you insert a USB Type C cable, there are 3
options. Data Transfer, MIDI, Charging.
Now, there's another option to use as a webcam. So, if you insert a USB Type C cable, you'll be able to use your phone's camera as a webcam. So that has become very easy. There's a webcam mode in “Android 15”.
5. Cellular
Network Security:
There's another issue & another feature in “Android
15”. Now, the phishing calls & scamsters generally call when you're in
an unencrypted area. So that they can spoof your data. They'll have a hard time
if it's encrypted.
Now, there's a new feature called “Cellular
Network Security”. If you enable it, you won't be able to make any calls in
an unencrypted area. So you'll be safe. In fact, these criminals just intercept
you like this. They're looking for you when you're in an unencrypted area on
the network. So you can turn it on & there's no tension. You don't have to
worry.
6. Google Play Protect Live Threat
Detection:
Friends, we always tell you not to install 3rd
party apps. But still, there's an app on Google Play Store. You download it
& there's a white list. Then there's an update & you don't know what
happens in the update.
So now, there's “Live Threat Detection”.
Meaning, when you go to the Play Store & install an app, & there are
updates in it, the Play Protect will scan it before you install it. It'll scan
it with the help of AI & check if there's any issue. Then it'll let you
install it. So the security has increased. You don't have to worry, just go
ahead & install.
7. App Pairs:
It's the 1st time that a new version of Android
has been released. It's now applicable on foldables too. Yes, it wasn't like
this before. There were limited pixel devices & Samsung flagship devices.
But now, it's increased a lot. You can install “Android
15” Beta on many other phones. And there's a reason. There's a feature for
big screens too. You can use it on small screens too. It's called “App Pairs”.
Meaning, you're a multi-tasker & you use 2 apps at the same time on a split
screen. Now, you can combine 2 apps as 1 icon. You'll click on it & 2 apps
will open automatically. That too on a split screen. So you'll have a browser
& you're watching a video. Or you'll have a notepad & you're watching a
video & you want to write some comments. You can do that very easily with “App
Pairs”.
8. App Archiving:
Now, there are some apps like this too. If you
look at my phone, I've installed so many apps in the last 1.5 years. But I
don't use 90-50% of them. And there are some games which are of 300-400MB.
Now for that, there's “App Archiving”.
Where “Android 15” will find out by itself that it hasn't used this app
for 3-4 months. It'll automatically get archived. Yes, so that 400-500MB is
free for you if you want to do something else. And when you want to open that
app, you'll have to enable it. So it'll come out of the archive & will open
like a normal app.
9. Predictive Back:
There are some small features like “Predictive
Back”. Many times, you'll go to settings & after a lot of screens,
you'll go inside for some settings. And then you don't remember which is the
previous screen.
So if you long press the back arrow in
navigation, it'll show you the previous screen. So you don't have to worry,
you'll know which is the previous screen.
I'm going to tell you that if you want to
install “Android 15 Beta”, & if you're adventurous, then which
phones should you have. But if you want to install it now, I'll show you the
entire list below on the screen.
Before moving ahead, I want to know which
Android variant is on your phone. And also tell us in Comments section if
you're adventurous, how many are going to install Android 15 on their phones?
Do tell!
Before ending this article, I'd like to say
that this is not the exhaustive list. There are more features coming in the
next beta updates. There are leaks, so we won't talk much about them. But as
soon as the beta is released & it becomes stable, we'll write a another article
on it. So don't forget to read it!
